Dr. Jonathan Fisher is a research scientist within the Centre for Fisheries Ecosystems Research (CFER). His primary research goal is to understand and quantify how fishing and environmental conditions alter the characteristics and dynamics of marine ecosystems—with a focus on the fisheries resources of Newfoundland and Labrador and emerging issues in Arctic waters. Those goals are currently being achieved through collaborative research with industry, academic, and government partners and the supervision of graduate student research projects.

Before joining the CFER, Jonathan was a postdoctoral fellow concurrently with Queen’s University (Kingston, Ontario, Canada) and the Bedford Institute of Oceanography (Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada). Jonathan received his PhD from the University of Pennsylvania, his MSc from Dalhousie University, and his BSc from Queen’s University.

Contributor to FISH 6001 ‘Ecology, management, and practice of North Atlantic fisheries’. Dr. Fisher taught the Northwest Atlantic ecosystems module within that course in 2017 and 2018.
