Fisheries and Marine Institute of Memorial University of Newfoundland

The Fisheries and Marine Institute of Memorial University (MI) and College of the North Atlantic (CNA) are strengthening their long-standing collaborative relationship with the renewal and expansion of a five-year agreement.

Effective September 2020, graduates of 19 CNA Technology Diploma programs are eligible for entry to MI’s Bachelor of Technology program.

“Our expanded agreement continues to provide a clear pathway for students from College of the North Atlantic to further their education with an undergraduate degree from Memorial University by recognizing their post-secondary achievements at the diploma level and providing them with additional academic and career opportunities,” said Glenn Blackwood, vice-president of Memorial University (Marine Institute).

“This renewal is an excellent example of how both CNA and MI are committed to providing in-demand credentials for tomorrow’s workforce,” said Liz Kidd, president and CEO of CNA. “CNA graduates will not only have the technical skills to support their future career paths, they will also gain additional knowledge at MI that, when combined, will make them even more attractive for employers.” 

Included in the agreement are 19 three-year technology diploma programs stemming from CNA’s Schools of Engineering Technology, Health Sciences, and the Information Technology (IT) arm of Business & IT, which includes the CNA’s newest diploma program in Software Development (Co-op).

The CNA programs will ladder into MI’s one-year Bachelor of Technology to broaden and advance graduates’ skillsets in their entry-level supervisory, project management and leadership roles. Delivered online, this degree may be completed on a full-time basis in one academic year or on a part-time basis.
