Programs offered by the Marine Institute fall into three categories, each addressing the needs of the industry and the specific goals of the Newfoundland post-secondary education system.

• Advanced Diploma and Post Graduate Certificate programs are offered for industry professionals, including those entering specific industrial niches requiring highly developed technical skills.

• Diploma of Technology, Technician Diploma and Technical Certificate programs are offered for persons entering the work force at the basic technical level.

Industrial response short courses and programs are offered to industry participants who wish to continue their professional development.

• Professional development and certification in marine navigation, safety survival and fire-fighting are offered through a wide selection of training courses provided by the School of Maritime Studies.

• School of Fisheries short courses in fish harvesting and processing, aquaculture, and fisheries and aquaculture related safety training are offered on location in rural communities.

• The Institute offers, in cooperation with faculties of Memorial University, bachelor’s degrees in Maritime Studies, and Technology based upon existing three-year diploma programs, as well as an undergraduate certificate in Leadership.

• The Institute has greatly expanded its graduate programming in recent years and now offers graduate diploma and master's degrees in Applied Ocean Technology and Marine Studies (with several majors), a master’s in technology management, as well as Master of Science programs in Fisheries Science, Maritime Studies, and Maritime Management.

• Additionally, the Institute offers two doctor of philosophy degrees in the areas of Fisheries Science and Maritime Management.
