The Associate Vice-President (Marine Institute) Academic and Student Affairs provides leadership to the three academic Schools (Fisheries, Maritime Studies, and Ocean Technology), the Dr. C.R. Barrett Library, the Office of the Registrar, Student Affairs and Teaching and Learning. See Student Services (link to website) for further details on each of these services.

The Dr. C. R. Barrett Library collection supports study and research in fisheries and aquaculture, marine technologies, nautical science, and the ocean environment. The collection also includes significant holdings in engineering.

The Office of the Registrar provides a variety of services to support the development of students at the Marine Institute from the first point of contact to graduation. The Office is responsible for student recruitment, academic advising, admissions, and registration; examinations, grade reporting; application of academic policies and regulations; maintenance of student records; and coordination of graduation and certification activities for academic, community and industry-based programming.

• The Office of Student Recruitment provides the link between the Marine Institute and prospective students. The office connects with key partners at the secondary, post-secondary and industry levels to ensure that prospective students are knowledgeable about available programs. As well, the office coordinates the on-campus tour program and is actively involved in the transition of a prospective student to an applicant.
• The Admissions Office works as a division of the Office of the Registrar to admit students to all Marine Institute administered programs. The admissions office acts as the Institute liaison with Memorial’s Office of the Registrar and the School of Graduate Studies, and the Department of Advanced Education and Skills.

Student Affairs provides a variety of services to students across the diverse programs at the Marine Institute campus.  The department includes student support services, health and wellness, and the Office of Career Integrated Learning.

• Student Support Services include but are not limited to, coordinating student orientation, accommodating students with disabilities, and assisting students with general academic, mental health, and financial issues. Referrals are also provided to specialized services available on-campus at the Marine Institute, St. John’s main campus of Memorial University and in the community.
• Health and Wellness is responsible for coordinating fitness, recreational and wellness activities for students and staff.
• The Office of Career Integrated Learning (OCIL) OCIL is the primary link between the Marine Institute and industry for the purposes of arranging student employment experiences in our programs.  OCIL coordinates student work terms in various programs offered by the Marine Institute, provides job search support for students across all programs and coordinates on campus and virtual employer sessions throughout the academic year.
