For Students

Accessibility Services provides services to students with disabilities at the Marine Institute. The following list details some of those services.

Depending on an individual’s and situation, other services are available.

  • Campus orientation and in-take interview
  • Academic accommodations for tests and exams, including the and online courses
  • Wheelchair desk
  • Note-taking assistance
  • Disability awareness activities for faculty, staff, and students
  • Academic skills and learning strategy sessions throughout the school year

Memorial University’s Policy on Accommodations for Students with Disabilities states the following:

All requests for Accommodation must be based on documented need. It is the responsibility of the individual requesting an Accommodation to provide the necessary documentation to Accessibility Services. Documentation must be obtained from qualified clinicians, consultants, medical doctors, psychologists, audiologists, rehabilitation counselors, or other professionals who have specific training, designation, expertise, and/or experience and who are considered by the University qualified to assess the nature of the Disability/Disabilities for which an Accommodation is being requested.

New Students
  • New students who require academic accommodations must arrange to meet with Accessibility Services for an intake interview and to submit their documentation.
  • The student will receive information regarding the accommodation process, including how to utilize their accommodations for timed evaluations.
  • The student’s accommodation needs will be communicated to their instructors.
 
Returning Students

Students already registered with Accessibility Services should identify themselves to the Accessibility Officer at the beginning of each semester.
