The Centre for Marine Simulation (CMS) possesses the most comprehensive suite of marine simulation capabilities in North America. Its facilities cover an entire range of training, educational, and research and development capabilities ranging from computer based part-task simulators to large and complex full mission simulators.

Since 1964, community based training has been a part of the Marine Institute. The Community Based Education Delivery unit (CBED) continues this tradition, offering industrial response training. The unit's main office is located in St. John's with regional offices located in Lewisporte and Iqaluit, Nunavut.

In consultation with the professional marine community of the northeast coast of Newfoundland, the Marine Institute's Lewisporte Regional Fisheries and Marine Centre seeks to develop courses and programs that meet the needs of the local industry.
Through MI International, the Marine Institute participates in international projects, contract training and consultancies around the world. MI International has a large multi-disciplinary team of experienced professionals, world-class training and applied research facilities and a network of outstanding partner organizations that deliver results.
Over its 20-year history, MI International has implemented more than 120 projects in over 50 countries.
The Offshore Safety and Survival Centre (OSSC) delivers a comprehensive range of safety, survival and emergency response training for offshore petroleum, marine transportation, fishing and land based industries. Through its satellite Safety and Emergency Response Training (SERT) Centre located in Stephenville, it also offers emergency response training to the firefighting and aviation industries.
The OSSC works closely with industry, researchers and industry associations to improve safety technologies and practices and can design and customized courses to meet the specific training needs of its clients.
Located in Stephenville, Newfoundland and Labrador, the Safety and Emergency Response Training Centre (SERT) is one of the premiere fire training facilities in Canada with the capability and equipment to provide Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting, Structural, Marine and Industrial Firefighting training. The SERT Centre also delivers the Marine Institute's Fire Rescue Technical Certificate program.
